This is a small part of a larger project that I'd like to do. I was surprised by the audience's desire to get down on the ground between my legs to look in the mirror. There was a lot of embarrassed laughter. I felt like I was giving birth again, with all those people so uncomfortably next to my crotch.

The first performance is today, August 26 from 7pm - 8pm!
I need you to be in the dressing room no later than 6pm so we can get ready and chill before we perform.

The dressing room will be in The Event Loft, which is located at 50 Alabama St. SW.

Park in the parking deck on Martin Luther King dr. between Central and Pryor St .
Take the elevator to level 3
go across the bridge
go up the stairs to the top level

Jon Ciliberto will be interacting with the audience by scanning them and wrapping them in caution tape.

WORKER ACTIONS

Workers will be following the instructions of the lead worker.
You should be slow, somber, relaxed and muted.
Keep your arms at your sides.
Provide a still backdrop for my actions
Try to stay in a line that is parallel to the audience [except during the circle and scatter commands].
Ignore the audience.
Focus on looking at me and each other, while paying attention to the compositions that fill your field of vision.

COMMAND WORDS
[spoken by the leader]

LINE = form a line that follows the leader so that you are providing a backdrop for me that is parallel to the audience.
CIRCLE = form a circle around me. This action happens when I need to communicate something to you.
SCATTER = walk 27 steps away, and then quickly return and form a CIRCLE around me.
CAUTION TAPE = hold onto caution tape.

WHERE

We will be roaming from the event loft on Upper Alabama St.
Go around the Marta station and Baskin Robbins.
And then down the big steps next to the fountains.
Workers will be walking down the steps in a parallel line behind me.
We'll hang out down by the steps and fountains for a bit, where we'll do "scatter" and "caution tape."
Then, we will quickly walk single file back to the dressing room.

Donorcycle derives from a variety of influences. One is a post-Japan nuclear disaster dream I had where vines were growing into my skin and I discovered that this phenomenon would help combat the radiation from nuclear disasters. To me, nuclear power production is a disaster waiting to happen.

The name "donorcycle" itself reflects my disdain for what I feel is the inherent danger of motorcycles and is about turning lemons into lemonade. Unfortunately, along with too many other people, I have a friend who is very sick and is currently on the waiting list for a donor heart so he can have a heart transplant. While thinking about the site and context of this performance, I've simultaneously been worrying about my friend and knowing that someone has to die in order for my friend to live. This conundrum has brought out some conflicted feelings. Ambulance sirens and reports of serious car accidents spark a guilty, excited feeling in me.

In looking at data from UNOS [United Network for Organ Sharing], I discovered that multiple vehicle accidents provided the most common source for heart transplants in 2010. "Motorcycle fatalities are not only our number one source of organs," said one surgeon. "They are also the highest-quality source of organs, because donors are usually young, healthy people with no other traumatic injuries to the body, except to the head." Sometimes, I like to think that I can create magic through performance. The desperation that comes from an inability to protect myself and my loved ones from unexpected disasters drives me to create an artistic solution. Hopefully, this performance can, at the very least, create awareness for organ donation. Please, become an organ donor. Thank you!

Dance Truck and MotorGoGo will be making their first appearance together on the plaza in front of the Museum of Design Atlanta! Local dance favorites Gathering Wild and Catellier Dance Projects will preview work from their upcoming shows and Allison Rentz will treat the audience to a one-of-a-kind performance.

The Good Food Trike will be selling treats while the Dance Truckers bust a move on MODA's patio.

The dances will take place outside for free, but folks who pay regular admission to the museum will receive
a free drink and get to take in the awesome exhibition!

Allison Rentz, whose work involves social commentary with an autobiographical flavor, will present a site-specific performance installation at the new gallery, Sous Whisky Marin. While Allison's work always involves plastic and the performative element, this piece will also incorporate the entity that recently consumes her life--her 1 year old son, Ping Pong. Perhaps you have seen Allison chasing her wild child at art openings?

For this performance, Allison will attempt to contain her son's recent obsession of drawing all over everything. Expect a chaos and an uncertainty reminiscent of the holiday the event occurs on, Ground Hog's Day. Will Ping Pong draw for us, or will he attempt to escape and wreak havoc on the private and public areas of the gallery?

YOU CAN RELAX

Sous Whisky Marin is a work in progress, an experiment about living with the arts. It's busy, too loud and sometimes all night long. It's sometimes a quiet place for reading, practicing, writing, film screening, thinking, debating and discussing. It's a fine art gallery with artwork and unique merchandise for sale. We usually offer refreshments and we're almost never closed. (WHAT?!)

Coined by Breton, 'sous whisky marin' suggests a lack of control or surrender to subconscious impulses. Anything goes but not everything goes. Accordingly, this space features all types of art and musical performance, meetings, exhibitions, rehearsals and other spontaneous affairs. And is occasionally reserved for private events (because somebody's gotta pay rent...)

Uniquely, this is also a living space. Our living room is your workshop. Our visitors are our teachers and participants in this experiment. We offer our speakeasy salon where all well-behaved loafers are welcome, a great gathering place for artists, musicians and other performers. Sous Whisky Marin is operating on a flexible as-needed calendar where some artists have been known to work around the clock.

Rotating visual art shows are curated by Mandie Turner Mitchell and paired with local and traveling musical guests for special evening events. The opening reception for visual art shows are always held during the Castleberry Hill Art Stroll on the 2nd Friday of each month.

Don't bother looking for a website, so far we're decidedly offline (except for this bit of advertisement course.) If you want to get more info we do it by singing telegram, just send your address.

Publicized hours are 3-8pm each day. But do call ahead.

and my reaction was that i would have made of posterboard instead,
but i had workers, and they deserved their freedom, as long as they were producing
and i guessed the large heavy contraption was allright as long as it was to be powered by many people
and the price was right 236 = affordable by a nonprofit org, and my workers argued against that pearl, and i mentioned my observations of individuals in groups, and how they happily tossed about a 20 if they believed in a cause, and surely some group would believe in the cause of pushing a large, heavy plywood little people icon for the halloween parade. and i pointedly imagined and indicated with my gaze towards the gangly member of the rcyb

the photo cut out reps of the live models was, i determined acceptable, because they were my workers, and how could i expect anyone to do my actual bidding and remain still for so many hours, but my solution was to move a body part every 10 minutes in such a controlled martha graham manner.

alas, communication had failed
because i was taking on too much
and no time at the drawing table
simply heading up a large org of workers
who were doing my supposed bidding
but i was so lenient that they were really beyond my control
and the outcome was no longer my vision.

this is the world of mine that i will rejoin inside my brain.now.

I accidentally did a fertility ritual through my performances this past summer, and now I am pregnant. Because of this phenomenon, I'm worried that my art can predict the future. I want to express some of the conflicts that exist around my pregnancy, but I'm afraid this will harm the baby.
This sketch will try to balance a ritual of eliminating conflict, and producing positivity for me and other members of our culture.

I woke up angry and I've been crying all morning. Can I pull myself together enough to go work on this installation? I am going to try... Beware, this piece is bound to be full of messes. Earlier, I had a vision of me laying on a fetal position in the space crying [instead of doing actual art]. I am going to keep this from happening.

The space is beautiful! I am so glad I got to work in the space yesterday. I really enjoyed playing with the materials, and I realized that by moving them around and making new configurations, this functioned as a performance. There were some beautiful moments. I decided to make an audio recording, which I am about to edit, and the result will be my sound scape for the performance. I had wanted to borrow a cordless lapel mic from my baby daddy, but he hates me again now. So, I won't worry too much about live audio output.

what i've been working on lately:

- obsessively making lots and lots of these
- if you see me out, ask and i'll show you some.
- i'm happy to reserve one for you if you'd like to tell someone you want one for xmas.
editing clothes [being poor means no money to buy new clothes or shoes. fortunately, i know how to sew. my latest endeavor includes turning some ugly clogs into boots. ] [i'm not complaining, i prefer to make my own stuff because it seems that i'm never able to find what i'm looking for when shopping]
depression = they've been worse lately, and this makes it difficult to get anything done.
art therapy. it seems that i've not yet come to terms with the horrible loss of love in my life that i suffered years ago. yesterday, i realized that i need to do some art about this. bear with me, please. this process is bound to include lots of drawing, poetry, and ritualistic actions. some will be private, and i'm bound to do some stuff in public.

decided to look at the audience, because people like to be looked at

when a troup of over the top halloween costumed people approached, i decided that i would have more fun if i had some smoke

it began to rain again
everything got wet, down to my toes

standing still was too much

holding ping pong interfered with my performance
ping pong's songs didn't go with my my text

eggtooth had been introducing people to ping pong, and he got cold and sat in the truck.

i couldn't believe how dedicated people were

i would have bailed on this performance, except i had received $20 for supplies
and this denoted an obligation

my installation was lame messy drawing

i only had one art moment, when i was walking back to my site so i could uninstall,
i realized that i was dragging a pencil tail, like in my text.

directions to railroad tunnel---Go down memorial drive towards the capital.---Take a left on capital avenue--which goes past the stadium and turns into Hank Aaron. (Capital avenue/Hank Aaron is that street which has the giant olympic rings suspended above it.) Keep on going on Hank Aaron till it runs into an immmense crossroads with a red light. the crossroads also has railroad tracks. At this point you're actually on top of the tunnel. Allison Rentz Receives New Artist Grant

Atlanta, GA—Idea Capital announced today that conceptual and performance artist Allison Rentz has won the group's inaugural Idea Capital Artist Grant. Idea Capital is a new grassroots initiative established to help jump start Atlanta-based, artist-initiated projects that might not otherwise be supported through mainstream arts institutions.

Ms. Rentz will receive the inaugural $500 prize to support a new work titled "Pool." The artist describes the work as a multi-media "immersive world" in which invited "art students, architects, artists, designers, musicians, and chefs" will engage in a total sensory installation that "lives in and out of the water." The work will also include a video projection and scripted audience participation.

Several Idea Capital organizers cited Rentz's unconventional, edgy performance work as the kind of art they had hoped to support with this grant. "Allison Rentz is a visual and performance artist who hurtles herself into any project that she undertakes, and who welcomes and embraces risk," said co-founder Louise Shaw. Another co-founder, Pam Rogers, cited the artist's "commitment and spirit" as characteristics consonant with Idea Capital's mission. "We are excited about Ms. Rentz's passion and feel the ideas she expressed in her submission will be enhanced with this grant," said Rogers.

Rentz also expressed her gratitude for the grant. "I'd like to say how thrilled I am to be the first recipient of the Idea Capital grant," Ms. Rentz said. "I am excited to receive support for my non-commercial idea that would have been difficult to produce without Idea Capital's support."

Idea Capital founders and organizers intend to grow the grant in the future and plan to continue supporting non-commercial art that might not otherwise find funding. "Our investment in Rentz's idea hopefully sets the stage for future artist support across the spectrum of art activity and innovative production in Atlanta," said Louise Shaw. The group hopes to change the climate of arts funding in the city, allowing more support for riskier work. "It was important to make a statement from the beginning," said co-founder Cinqué Hicks. "As the program grows, we want it to be known that experimental, investigative art is supported in Atlanta."

Allison Rentz is likewise excited about what the grant may mean for the future, seeing in her grant the beginning of a trend among Atlanta art patrons. "I foresee many other arts lovers getting energized about pooling their money to fund art projects," said the artist. More people in the community should 'Just Do It!'"

I had such fun, and it was great to hang with so many friends. Also, thank you for your feedback, and for making the 2nd performance so much better.

It was a bummer that Nisa couldn't make it, but Monday night is an odd day to perform. Actually, I was kind of relieved that she didn't show up because I hadn't finished her new costume. I'm looking forward to our picnic. Maybe I'll re=use the fortune cookie. That was such fun having a super sized fortune cookie, with hacked up fortunes that were mixed with some of the hip hop lyrics and the occasional monster reference. I rattled the beads in honor of the monster. I guess that we should have made reference to some need to find the monster, and perhaps we could have embarked on a journey to search for her [with bamboo torches of course].
